“At the end of the day, with all the preparation and through the years, I feel like I’ll be the best to ever do it.” Kyle Pitts has the confidence that shows that he was born to be an NFL superstar. Coming off a monster season of 770 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, Kyle Pitts is almost a lock to be selected in the top ten later this month. We have not seen a dominant tight end prospect like Kyle Pitts in a long time. He is an unreal hybrid of tight end and wide receiver, and whatever team drafts him is going to rejuvenate their offense. Here are the three main reasons why Kyle Pitts is a can’t miss prospect that should be on everyone’s draft radar.
He is an elite route runner
Kyle Pitts’ combination of speed, footwork and body language help him to get open from defenders and run routes effectively. Line him up on a slant route, and he will torch his defender assigned to him. He clocked in at 4.44 for the 40 yard dash, an excellent time for someone his weight and size. This excellent video by First Down Training also describes how Pitts is able to juke his defenders out by pointing his shoulders and eyes to the opposite direction of where he is actually going. Overall, he is elite at getting open and running his assigned route.
He is one of the best pass catching tight ends we have seen
Kyle Pitts has very soft hands and this allows him to catch passes better than the majority of tight ends we have seen in the NFL. According to Pro Football Focus, out of all the college football players that had 65 targets or more, Pitts was the only player to have zero dropped passes. Even after taking big hits, this man does not let go of the ball. His hand size measures in at 10 ⅝ inches, along with having a wingspan of 83 ⅜ inches that can help him make those highlight reel catches the NFL craves. As long as he has an accurate QB throwing him dimes, he is guaranteed to get you that first down or that touchdown in the red zone.
His size and length allows him to be aggressive
Measuring in at 6’6 and 245 pounds, Pitts is a certified freak of nature. He is absurdly athletic for someone his size, and being so fast for someone of his frame allows him to straight up box out his defenders similar to a manner of rebounding in basketball. While his blocking is his only area he is not elite in compared to other tight end prospects, his size allows for this to be corrected and improved on with the right coaching scheme. The physical attributes are there, so there is no reason to believe the right coach cannot make him a top pass blocker in the league.
Kyle Pitts is the most exciting tight end prospect I have seen in years. I expect his transition to the NFL to go very smoothly, and he should be a player that will come to a team and make an immediate impact. The NFL needs a player at the tight end position like Pitts, as the production at the tight end position has been quite underwhelming recently. I cannot wait to see where he ends up and what his numbers will be next season.
What are your thoughts on Pitts and where do you think he will end up? Let me know in the comments.
