This offseason has not even officially begun and it’s already been arguably the wildest in recent memory. Players are popping up in trade rumors left and right, and almost half the league is in the market for a new quarterback. Everyone’s eyes are open awaiting the next big move to take the league by storm. The Chicago Bears are a team that is no exception. They have a lot of eyes on them right now, as they opted to bring coach Matt Nagy and GM Ryan Pace back for one last ride. Since they are going to be on a short leash, they internally decided they are not bringing back Mitch Trubisky and are going to swing for the fences.
Naturally, everyone assumes that quarterback should be the number one offseason priority. You can’t win in today’s league without an elite one. But the Bears are in a position where quarterbacks are doomed to fail. We specialize in poor offensive play calling, historically bad quarterback development, and an offensive line deemed a liability. No quarterback will be successful until we fix our offensive line. This is why trading for Orlando Brown should be our number one offseason priority. Fresh off a pro bowl season and requesting a trade so he can play at his natural position of left tackle, landing an O-lineman like him would be a dream come true for the Bears.
The Bears offensive line last year was the 22nd ranked unit in the league, and third in the division (Vikings just behind at 23rd). When the line isn’t plagued by injuries, it is below average at best. This is why Orlando Brown would be a great fit for the group. The Bears haven’t had a pro bowl lineman since 2018, and Orlando Brown is a clear upgrade over Charles Leno. You can’t have a successful offense without a successful O-line, and if Orlando Brown is really on the market, he should take precedent before finding the new QB.
What are your thoughts? Do you think Orlando Brown would be a good addition?
